The smile of innocent child
It has been a while since I last updated this blog. I’m sorry Mr. WordPress for my negligence to keep in touch with you. I am still struggling to find the right time to update any stories here. Due to upcoming trials in about 3 weeks time, I found that the time management is very crucial as far as my study concerns.
Okay. I had already finished my Paediatric posting for the last 1 week. It was my last posting of paediatric for this year. Sadly, it was just for 2 weeks while others got 3 weeks ++.
I thanked Allah for making the ward-ending test quite easy. The questions asked by the senior doctor was the basic one and I felt relieved to be able to answer almost all of them (still got to polish many things actually). Praise be to Allah..
I learned many things during that short period of time. As it was raining season, almost 80% of the cases were respiratory-related problem. So, the stethoscope is really important for us to auscultate the patient’s lung and learn various unique breath sounds.
As the child’s immunity is still developing, they are more prone to respiratory infection. In the ward, there were cases like bronchiolitis, pneumonia and asthma. The former 2 cases were the highest number of cases found in the ward.
The interesting part was when we learnt the breath sounds of the lung in which I found unique. Although the sounds kind of having the same tone roughly, they are different to be precise. Normally, the breath sound heard at the chest area is of vesicular type while the sound over the neck is of bronchial type. Both have particular features which differentiate them with each other. When there is abnormality, the sounds change in character and duration.
Regular practice should be done to master the sound difference. It is challenging for those who learn it for the first time. Once you get it, you will remember it for the rest of your life, says my lecturer.
Hmmm.. I think that’s all for the time being. Hope you readers got something from this post. Remember, without the air, we cannot live for even 10 minutes. So be thankful with the creation of your nose as it is one of the important gift by God. 😉
