The Beginning of Life
When I said that my siblings are more than 3, a friend of mine was surprised. He asked me again to reconfirm the fact.
Here in India, the number of children per family is lesser as the population is among the highest throughout the world. The maximum number of children in urban area per family should not exceed 2 while in rural area should be 3 only (4 is rare).
The increased population is contributed by the number of delivery per day for sure. Almost everyday, there are delivery of the baby where paediatrician have to be prepared to resuscitate the baby. My group is at the maternity ward. The PG student has to get ready as delivery may occur anytime.
Yesterday was quite a tense day in the labour room. A pregnant woman of around 29 weeks of gestation was going to deliver twin babies. One of the baby was in vertex presentation while the other was in breech presentation. So they were babies born prematurely. =(
When the baby which was in vertex presentation had been delivered, he was brought to the NICU after resuscitation. The problem started with the second baby with breech presentation. The leg of the baby came out first. After the shoulder had been idelivered, the head stuck inside.
So many attempts had been made to deliver the head completely, but it was of no use. The mother looked very very tired. 1 hour later, the baby was completely delivered. Sadly, he was already died when the head was stuck in the mother’s uterus. The baby’s limb was blue (cyanosed) as oxygen was insufficient.
No resuscitation was done..
When I heard the mother’s scream during labour, deep in my heart, my mother’s face came in mind. I hoped I would be able to come back home in the future and meet her, help her as she had gone through much hardship so that I am here in this world. I still feel that I can do a lot of things to make her feel appreciated.
Let’s be a good son or daughter to repay our parent’s sacrifices to raise us up. At least do something meaningful in life so that they feel happy when they meet us.
