A Responsibility

Right now I am doing night duty at the PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit). There are 3 patients of which I have to monitor for every hour.

The first one is a female child of bronchopneumonia. Bronchoscopy was done in the evening. Close monitoring is needed to check her vitals.

Second patient is a male child of carbamazepine poisoning. It is a drug poisoning itself. The child is stable now. Heart rate, SpO2 and blood pressure is normal.

Third one, a male baby of 3 months old. Down’s syndrome. Having respiratory distress. Now he is on ventilatory support. Close monitoring is needed for every hour. Intubation was done for resuscitation of the baby and for the ventilator. Currently he is stable.

What a tough night, wait, morning for me.. Still I am feeling grateful to get this chance. Not feeling sleepy yet. Could be due to the caffeine effect previously.

Ok. Let’s all pray for their health. May tomorrow or the next day they would be better than today.
